SUMMARY:The Great Backyard Bird Count in Prospect Park
DESCRIPTION: Leader: Tina Alleva \nMeet: 9:00 a.m. at the Audubon Center at the Boathouse in Prospect Park. \nRegistration: No registration necessary. All experience levels are welcome! \nJoin the Brooklyn Bird Club for a winter morning in Prospect Park as we take part in the 30th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC)\, a four-day global community science event taking place February 12–15\, 2027. \nWe’ll explore some of Prospect Park’s best birding areas\, counting winter residents and seasonal visitors while learning to identify the birds we encounter by sight and sound. Our observations will contribute to a worldwide snapshot to help scientists better understand how bird populations are changing over time. \nWhat to bring: Dress warmly and in layers for winter weather\, and wear comfortable shoes suitable for park paths. Bring binoculars if you have them. \nWeather: In the event of inclement weather\, please check the Brooklyn Bird Club Facebook page\, the Kingsboider’s Prospect Sightings blog (https://prospectsightings.blogspot.com/)\, or our website Trips page for updates or cancellations. \nRoute Description: This outing takes place over varied terrain (grass\, dirt\, and paved paths\, slight inclines and steps) and follows an approximately 1.5–2 mile route. We will travel at a leisurely pace with frequent stops for birding. Participants are welcome to leave the outing at any time. If you have any questions about the route or accessibility\, please feel free to email tinamariealleva@gmail.com \nAdditional Information \n\nNo pets allowed. Service animals are always welcome.\nMinors must be accompanied by an adult.\n\n  \n  \n
