DESCRIPTION:\nLeader: Heydi Lopes\n\n\n\nParticipant limit: 16 members \nFocus: This trip focuses on late fall migrants\, particularly sparrows  (Emberizidae genus)\, plus raptors in peak\, as well as early winter species\, namely arriving water fowl and perhaps late shorebirds. There will be concentration on grassland species and possibly a vagrant species. \nRegistrar: Bobbi Manian email roberta.manian@gmail.com \nRegistration Period: October 8th-October 12th \nNotes: Bring lunch\, plenty of water\, insect repellent\, and good walking shoes. The walking is flat and casually paced with likely 5 miles total distance. If you want to bring a scope\, a light one is best. We expect a walk ending in mid-afternoon.. There are restrooms available. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with a slightly-competitive but just-for-fun event- the first-ever Brooklyn Birding Scavenger Hunt! \nParticipating is easy. Form a team of 6 or fewer birders (or do it solo) and bird any way you’d like – in your favorite park\, all over Brooklyn\, or through your window. \nYou’ll receive a list of birding goals with varying point values to complete during the day. The team who totals the most points will be crowned the champs and win fantastic bird apparel from the Brooklyn Bird Club and Bird Collective. \nExamples of birding goals\, which could cover bird identification\, bird behavior\, or “seen while birding” activity: \n\nSee a red-colored bird (2 points per species)\nWatch birds mob a predator (5 points per observation)\nSee a “life bird” (for anyone on your team\, 20 points\, max 60 points)\n\nWe’ll have a compilation event at a to be determined bar or park location in the late afternoon. \nPlease email scavengerhunt@brooklynbirdclub.org to register yourself or your team by Wednesday\, October 11.
