SUMMARY:TILDEN AND BREEZY: THE FINAL WEEKS OF WINTER
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Ryan Goldberg \nFocus: Enjoy the last weeks of winter on the western Rockaways as ducks\, loons\, and other waterfowl begin staging to return north. We’ll walk from Fort Tilden to the Breezy Point Tip\, a long\, exciting beach walk that follows some of the city’s best dune habitat and protected shoreline. We’re likely to see hundreds or thousands of gannets\, and we could also turn up wintering favorites like snow buntings and horned larks. \nRegistar: Ryan Goldberg\, ryan.goldberg@gmail.com \nRegistration Period: Feb. 17-22. Participant limit is 12. Current club members will receive priority over non-members. \nItinerary: Meet at 8:30 AM at the white chapel at Ft. Tilden on Heinzelman Rd.\, where there is a parking lot for those who wish to drive. https://maps.app.goo.gl/EpCqAQq6fWtpUTaSA \nCarpooling is encouraged\, but the club will not be arranging carpools. Fort Tilden is also accessible by public transit\, via the Q35 bus\, which departs from Avenue H\, in front of Target\, and drops you off at Beach 169th Street\, a two-minute walk to the chapel. \nRelative difficulty: We’ll be walking 6-8 miles\, most of it on wet sand\, though we’ll take our time. \nNotes: Please bring lunch\, snacks\, and water\, and a scope if you have it. Dress accordingly for the wind and cold. Once we’re on the beach\, there is no shelter. Breezy is breezy! \n
