SUMMARY:Journey to Staten Island's Avian Treasures
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Tom Preston \nParticipant limit: 16 members \nFocus: This trip focuses on several locations in Staten Island\, which will showcase a variety of habitats\, including forest\, beach\, marsh and grassland. We have an excellent chance of seeing a variety of species which will highlight late fall migrants\, early winter arrivals and lingering birds from earlier seasons. Sparrows and hawks should be well represented\, and waterfowl\, late shorebirds and other songbirds will also be sought. Staten Island has many productive and easily accessible birding spots\, we will visit a number of them. \nRegistrar: JoAnn Preston email jocrochet@verizon.net  Members and drivers get priority. \nCar Pool Fee: $20.00 \nRegistration Period: October 15th-October 24th \nNotes: Bring lunch\, plenty of water\, insect repellent\, and good walking shoes. We will do some walking\, perhaps 3 miles over mostly flat terrain over the course of the day. A scope is definitely helpful\, but not required. We expect the trip to complete early to mid-afternoon. There will be restrooms available at various locations during the trip. \n

SUMMARY:Introduction to Birdwatching
DESCRIPTION:\nThese outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles. \n\n
