SUMMARY:Staten Island Winter Trip
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Tom Preston \nParticipant limit: 16 members \nFocus: We will visit several locations in Staten Island on this trip. There is good birding year round on the island. In winter coastal spots are often productive\, but we will visit inland areas too.The exact spots will be finalized later\, based on conditions and reports. Staten Island has many productive and easily accessible birding spots\, we will visit a number of them. \nRegistrar: JoAnn Preston email jocrochet@verizon.net Members and drivers get priority. \nCar Pool Fee: $20.00 \nRegistration Period: January 14th – January 24th \nNotes: Bring walking shoes\, and a scope if you have one (helpful but not essential). We will do some walking\, perhaps 3 -4 miles over mostly flat terrain over the course of the day. We expect the trip to complete early to mid-afternoon. There will be restrooms available at various locations during the trip. \n

Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Leader: Tina Alleva \nMeet 9 a.m. at the Audubon Center at the Boathouse. No registration necessary. \nFocus: The annual NYS Waterfowl count commences this week with the aim of counting ducks\, swans\, geese\, grebes and coots among the species documented. Prospect Park’s tally will be part of the overall Kings County count. \nNote: Dress warmly for the cold season and long walk. The walk should take all morning.
