SUMMARY:On the Rich Birding trails of Bear Mountain State Park and Seven Lake Drive
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Max Epstein \nParticipant limit: 12 \nFocus: Breeding birds of mountain\, valley\, marsh and wood margins. \nRegistrar: Danielle Khalife  email daniellek97@gmail.com \nRegistration Period: May 25th-May 29th. Drivers and members get priority. \nCarpool fee: $20 \nItinerary: You’ll spend the morning along the trails of Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks\, seeking out the local breeders of the Lower Hudson Valley;  With Doodletown road trail closed for the season\, we’ll find a productive alternative. Expect 6-7 miles of walking on wide and mostly flat trails. Depending on weather and timing\, perhaps a walk through Iona Island or other spots in the vicinity. \nTargets include the classic breeders from that area:\, Hooded Warbler\, Blue-Winged Warbler\, Worm-eating Warbler\, Louisiana Waterthrush\, Ovenbirds\, Acadian Flycatcher\, Cerulean Warbler\, Yellow-throated Vireo\, Scarlet Tanager\, YB and BB Cuckoos\, among others. \nNote: Pack lunch as food options are slim there\, plenty of water\, and good walking shoes along with sunhat\, sunblock\, and insect repellent. DESCRIPTION:\nThese outings will start at The Audubon Center at the Boathouse. \nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re just starting out or have already joined the birding ranks\, this introductory bird outing is for you. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn the basics of birding and search for the dozens of species that visit Prospect Park through all seasons. \nAll levels and ages are welcome. No registration necessary. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to loan. \nRoute Description: This outing is at a leisurely pace with lots of stops to observe birds. A different route through the park may be taken each week. There may be steps\, slight inclines\, and grass and dirt paths with exposed roots. We will cover approximately 1.5-2 miles. \n\n
