SUMMARY:Celebrating Migration on the 250th Anniversary of the Staten Island Peace Conference in Tottenville
DESCRIPTION:Leader: Peter Dorosh \nFocus: We’ll combine history and birding on this walk (held the day after the actual anniversary date) with a visit to Conference House Park (formerly Billopp House Park) at the southern tip of Staten Island—the southernmost point in New York State and a renowned hotspot for fall bird migration. \nThis historic site was the setting of the Staten Island Peace Conference of September 1776\, when a delegation consisting of Benjamin Franklin\, John Adams\, and Edward Rutledge met with British Admiral Richard Howe to discuss a possible peace settlement following the American defeat at the Battle of Brooklyn (Long Island). Although the conference failed to produce an agreement\, it remains a significant event in Revolutionary War history. \nFor more information about the conference\, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staten_Island_Peace_Conference \nRegistration Period: September 6th-September 10th \nRegistrar: Peter Dorosh Prosbird@gmail.com \nParticipant limit: 16 \nCarpool fee: $15 \nNOTES: Departure time is 6:30 am. The meeting spot will be provided upon the end of the registration period. Current club members and drivers will receive priority. Each person must register individually; you may not register additional participants. Bring a sun hat\, sun block\, lunch\, sufficient water and scope if you own one. Mount Loretto Park is another likely spot to visit afterwards. \n

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Location: Audubon Center at the Boathouse\nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re new to birding or looking to build your skills\, this introductory outing is a great way to explore Prospect Park and learn about the birds that visit throughout the year. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn birding basics and search for the dozens of species found in the park across all seasons. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is required. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhat to Bring:\nBinoculars if you have them\, comfortable walking shoes\, water\, and weather-appropriate clothing. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease Note:\nPets are not permitted on this outing. Depending on attendance\, participants may be divided into smaller groups. Outings are held rain or shine unless severe weather makes conditions unsafe. \nRoute Description:\nThis outing moves at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to observe birds. Routes may vary from week to week depending on bird activity and park conditions. Participants can expect paved paths\, dirt trails\, grassy areas\, slight inclines\, and occasional steps. The group will cover approximately 1.5–2 miles. \n
