SUMMARY:Boogie Down Birding: The Bronx’s Pelham Bay Park
DESCRIPTION:Leaders: Tim Graves and Ryan Goldberg \nParticipant limit: 15 \nFocus: Visit the city’s largest park\, Pelham Bay\, in the only borough that’s part of the North American continent. (The rest is an archipelago.) We’ll look for a range of species\, from waterfowl on Long Island Sound to overwintering shorebirds on Twin Island. We’ll also explore the peaceful woods of Hunter Island and its famous pine grove. \nRegistrar: Ryan Goldberg\, email: ryangoldberg@gmail.com \nRegistration period: Jan 31st – Feb 4th \nCarpool fee: $10 \nNotes: This is a carpool trip so the exact number of participants will depend on the availability of drivers. We’ll leave Brooklyn around 7 AM to reach the parking lot at Orchard Beach by 8. This is a full-day trip\, so please bring lunch and water. On Twin Island we’ll be walking on rocks that can be wet\, so please wear waterproof shoes with a good grip. Otherwise\, we’ll walk approximately four miles on relatively flat terrain. Please bring a scope if you have one. \nCurrent club members and drivers will receive priority. If you need to cancel\, please do so at least 24 hours in advance so we can offer someone your spot. \n

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Location: Audubon Center at the Boathouse\nLeader: A member of the Brooklyn Bird Club \nWhether you’re new to birding or looking to build your skills\, this introductory outing is a great way to explore Prospect Park and learn about the birds that visit throughout the year. Join a member of the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn birding basics and search for the dozens of species found in the park across all seasons. \nAll ages and experience levels are welcome. No registration is required. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. \nWhat to Bring:\nBinoculars if you have them\, comfortable walking shoes\, water\, and weather-appropriate clothing. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease Note:\nPets are not permitted on this outing. Depending on attendance\, participants may be divided into smaller groups. Outings are held rain or shine unless severe weather makes conditions unsafe. \nRoute Description:\nThis outing moves at a relaxed pace with frequent stops to observe birds. Routes may vary from week to week depending on bird activity and park conditions. Participants can expect paved paths\, dirt trails\, grassy areas\, slight inclines\, and occasional steps. The group will cover approximately 1.5–2 miles. \n
