Exploring the Bronx: A boat ride to Ferry Point Park in Throgs Neck

November 7

Leader: Chris Laskowski

Focus: Ferry Point Park is a debut destination for the BBC, offering members the chance to explore a new location during a rare visit to the Bronx. The 40-minute ferry ride north on the East River from the East 34th Street terminal provides scenic views throughout the journey. Once there, Ferry Point Park’s expansive open spaces make it an ideal place to look for the bird species typically found in November. (See the checklist below.)

Transportation: We will take the 9:30 “Rockaway -Soundview” line, NYC Ferry northbound from the 34th Street Ferry Landing.  Please arrive 15 minutes early.

Location & Access: Address: East 35th Street at FDR Drive. Transit Connections: Accessible via the M34-SBS or M15 buses. The nearest subways are the 4, 5, 6, and 7 lines located a short walk west at 33rd St or Grand Central.

NOTE: NYC ferry also stops at Brooklyn Bridge Park,  Sunset Park, and Greenpoint for transfers to 34th with earlier departures. Check their website for more information to plan and see fares. https://www.ferry.nyc/routes-and-schedules/

For weather issues please check BBC Facebook and Prospect Sightings blog for updates.

Required: good walking shoes, lunch, water, portable scope if you have one, proper attire for cool weather.

The leader invites attendees to a post-trip pizza munch at a renowned pizzeria in Williamsburg.
