CANCELLED: Hiking Rockefeller State Park Preserve, Tarrytown, NY

Note: this is a Metro-North train trip from Grand Central Station; extensive walking requiring good walking shoes (light hiking type). This is a first-time club visit to this preserve.

Focus: spring songbirds, warblers, vireos, buntings, bluebirds and typical woodland residents, woodpeckers, sparrows, and ducks at the main lake

Park profile: Formerly owned by one of America’s richest and most famous families, this bucolic getaway will entrance the visitor. Replete with mature trees, the 200 plus acre Rockefeller estate was a grand place for walks and carriage rides when the Rockefellers owned it.

Trip itinerary: Our trip focuses on an extensive walk approximately 8+ miles over low slopes and beautiful woodlands and fields. We will get at off at the Scarborough train station, take minimally-trafficked suburban roads to the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail and afterwards meander and connect with other park trails, mostly along streams. Eventually we will return to the Aqueduct and walk through historic Old Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.  Return from Philipse Manor Station. Ask the registrar for additional details.
