Journey to Staten Island’s Avian Treasures
October 26
Leader: Tom Preston
Participant limit: 16 members
Focus: This trip focuses on several locations in Staten Island, which will showcase a variety of habitats, including forest, beach, marsh and grassland. We have an excellent chance of seeing a variety of species which will highlight late fall migrants, early winter arrivals and lingering birds from earlier seasons. Sparrows and hawks should be well represented, and waterfowl, late shorebirds and other songbirds will also be sought. Staten Island has many productive and easily accessible birding spots, we will visit a number of them.
Registrar: JoAnn Preston email jocrochet@verizon.net Members and drivers get priority.
Car Pool Fee: $20.00
Registration Period: October 15th-October 24th
Notes: Bring lunch, plenty of water, insect repellent, and good walking shoes. We will do some walking, perhaps 3 miles over mostly flat terrain over the course of the day. A scope is definitely helpful, but not required. We expect the trip to complete early to mid-afternoon. There will be restrooms available at various locations during the trip.
