Itinerary: You’ll spend the morning along the trails of Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks, seeking out the local breeders of the Lower Hudson Valley; With Doodletown road trail closed for the season, we’ll find a productive alternative. Expect 6-7 miles of walking on wide and mostly flat trails. Depending on weather and timing, perhaps a walk through Iona Island or other spots in the vicinity.
Targets include the classic breeders from that area:, Hooded Warbler, Blue-Winged Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Ovenbirds, Acadian Flycatcher, Cerulean Warbler, Yellow-throated Vireo, Scarlet Tanager, YB and BB Cuckoos, among others.
Note: Pack lunch as food options are slim there, plenty of water, and good walking shoes along with sunhat, sunblock, and insect repellent. This trip may leave quite early; details given during registration.
