Overnight Trip: Jersey Ocean Marshes, Pine Barren Forest, and the Delaware Bayshore in the Northern Cape May region.

Description: In this transition between migration and breeding season, the leader returns to the southern New Jersey region reminiscing on his first visit in the 1980’s when legendary BBC President John Yrizarry led the Brooklyn Botanic Garden group. The focus is avian species that reside or migrate through areas along the Jersey Ocean side and Delaware Bayshore habitats in Cape May County, as well as interior preserves: maritime woodlands, salt marshes, beaches, interior Pine barren-like forest, and a car loop are all part of the journey.

Registration Period: March 1st- May 5th

Carpool fee: $100. Drivers and members get priority.

Itinerary (Preliminary):  Day 1 -Forsythe NWR (“Brigantine”), Ocean City Welcome Center, Avalon Dunes Trail OR Lizard Swamp Preserve.; Day 2: Belleplain State Forest, Heislerville WMA, East Point Lighthouse (Glades Preserve), Thompson or Moores Beach (time permitting); Day 3: Jakes Landing Road, Reeds Beach, Norbury Landing, Optional: Villa Cox Hall WMA or Wetlands Institute (time permitting)

Relative difficulty: generally flat but long walks. Most walking is upon dry surfaces.

Notes: This trip requires early risings (before daybreak). Bring scope if you own one and sun relevant essentials as well as insect repellent. Further details TBA.
