Southward Shorebirds on the move: Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Focus: the early wave of shorebirds and water birds, marsh species.

This is a car pool trip. Car pool fee: $10

Meeting time will be provided upon end of registration period. Current club members and drivers will receive priority. Each person must register individually; you may not register additional participants.

Notes: The East pond is the primary birding location before high tide. On this day the sun will rise in North Channel Bridge (Grassy Bay) at 6:01:39 am and sunset will be at 7:59:34 pm. In the high tide and low tide chart, we can see that the first high tide will be at 12:09 am and the next high tide at 12:52 pm. The first low tide will be at 6:35 am and the next low tide at 7:01 pm.Prepare for a long day under potentially hot sun. Bring mandatory waterproof boots, lunch, sunhat, insect repellent and plenty of water.

East pond in early August may have high water (no exposed mudflat) if summer is unusually stormy: be prepared.
