Summer Oasis at Canarsie Park
July 18
Leader: Rusty Harold
Synopsis: Canarsie Park is an under birded green oasis on Jamaica Bay where numerous shorebirds stopover on migration. In addition, it’s the summer home for many songbird and swallow species that are otherwise scarce in Brooklyn this time of year. We’ll explore fields, wood, and shoreline for several miles on paved and dirt (possibly muddy) trails and beach. Be prepared for a full day trip with lunch, sunscreen, and bug spray. If the weather cooperates, we’ll continue into Shirley Chisholm Park in the afternoon.
